North Eggardon Carthouse

Powerstock, Bridport, West Dorset DT6 3ST

Downstairs

The Carthouse's interior has lime-washed walls and floors paved with terracotta tiles. Solar panels supply hot water, boosted by a log boiler which also provides underfloor heating; padding round in bare feet can be enjoyable!

At the end of the spacious sitting/dining/cooking room is a large ESSE wood-fired cooker – gas and electric are also options. At the other end is a wood burning stove with comfortable sofas and chairs.

The cart shed itself is now a ground floor bedroom looking out onto the garden. Its en suite wet (shower) room has decorative Morroccan tadelakt walls – olive oil soap is rubbed into the lime-based plaster then polished carefully with a stone to make it waterproof. The former tackroom is a hall with an elegant ash staircase while the boot room has ample space to hang coats.
